Great perspective. I’m glad Japan is taking a sensible approach to immigration so that it doesn’t become a toxic issue like it is in the Western world.
Another important thing to note is that I believe a lot of the leftist attacks on Japan come from believing what the right-wing types are saying about the country. Right wing says it’s a homogeneous based paradise? Left believes it and says it’s a racist society.
The fact is that no country runs according to the priorities of online shouters — not Japan, not Russia (another alleged “based paradise”), not Israel, not even Hungary. Thanks to bad demographic trends, immigration will be an issue for the foreseeable future, so good information is crucial.
Indeed, I think it’s unfortunate how Japan has become another battleground for the cultural wars of the West. Of course neither actually knows much about this country or how things are actually viewed here.
Regarding views toward immigration, I think most countries’ opinions of foreigners turn negative when there’s too much mass immigration and little attempt at integration. For the time being, Japan has manageable numbers, while those who do opt to stay permanently are almost always people who love Japan and what this country offers. The same unfortunately can’t be said to most immigrants to Western Europe, many of whom just view it as an economic zone and have little interest in Western values.
Yup, disrespecting the country you’re moving into creates toxic attitudes among the native-born. As long as Japan keeps up its current approach, it should be good.

And get angry at these core values for existing.
I regret to inform you that that some people are spreading the idea of "the Japanese replacement". 🤦♀️ Lotus Eaters put this out, recently: https://youtu.be/DrH_73fSyVk?si=ZDjY1h6wVuMY-Vak
